Brake Repair Services in The Marietta Area

Maintaining Optimal Stopping Power

Given that a vehicle's brakes are one of the most crucial safety components, ensuring the safety of our customers is our top priority. Whether your brake pads indicate the need for replacement, your brake light is on, or you feel uneasy about your vehicle's deceleration, reach out to us at 770-928-0006 or visit our Marietta location. We're dedicated to promptly diagnosing the safety and reliability of your braking system.

Comprehensive Brake Repair

We provide a full range of brake repair services to ensure your vehicle performs at its best. Our services include:

Anti-Lock Brake System
Anti-lock Brake Systems (ABS) ensure that the wheels don't stop rotating during braking, preventing the car from skidding and offering greater control. If your ABS light comes on, visit Alpha & Omega Automotive where we will be happy to diagnose and fix the problem.

Brake Fluid Flushes
Brake fluid will absorb water from the air over time, causing the brake system to become less effective and the fluid to become corrosive, possibly damaging the system. It is important to perform a brake fluid flush regularly to ensure that your vehicle is using fresh fluid. Talk to our technicians at Alpha & Omega Automotive about when it's time for a brake fluid flush.

Brake Hoses
A brake hose is a tube carrying pressurized brake fluid from the master cylinder to the brakes. A crushed hose can cause a lagged or slow brake, and a leak in the hose can cause the brake, or the entire brake system, to fail. These don't need to be replaced often, but should be replaced at the first sign of cracking or wear.

Brake Pad & Shoe Replacement
Brake pad problems can usually be identified by squealing brakes. If your brake pads deteriorate completely, you'll hear a grinding metal-on-metal sound when braking, meaning that it's too late and you're ruining your rotors or drums! Those with knowledge of auto repair may be able to fix this at home, but you should always see an auto repair professional immediately if you have brake problems.

Caliper Replacement
The brake caliper houses your brake pads and fits around the rotor like a clamp, pressing the pads against the rotor when you brake. A brake caliper problem could cause uneven braking, making your car slide forward when you brake. Uneven braking can also cause your vehicle to slide out of control in bad weather conditions, so contact Alpha & Omega Automotive as soon as possible.

Resurface Rotors
In a disc brake system, rotors are attached to your vehicle's wheels. When the brake pads grip the rotor, they bring both the rotor and wheels to a stop. However, the friction causes grooves and cracks to appear over time. Resurfacing brings the rotor back to a "like-new" condition, reducing squealing and wobbling. Alpha & Omega Automotive will give your rotors a thorough inspection and recommend your best course of action.

Brake FAQs

Learn about some of the common questions you may have:

How much does brake repair cost in Marietta / Woodstock?

Why do brake specials seem like a bait & Switch?
You see a brake special for $149, make an appointment, clip your coupon and head on into the shop only to be told your brakes are going to cost $1,000 to fix. How can this be? What is advertised versus what they are trying to sell you? You feel ripped off and angry. Let’s break (haha you see what I did there?) this down so we can all have a clear understanding of what is happening.

Most new vehicles have disc brakes on both axles of their vehicle. Some older vehicles may have a drum brake system on the rear. For now, we will focus on disc braking systems. There are four components to your braking system:
Pads (Shoes) / Rotors / Calipers / Brake Line System (Flush)

  • PADS (SHOES)
Brake pads or shoes generally need to be replaced somewhere between 20,000 and 70,000 miles. When you see a brake special for $149, you are only getting brake pads replaced on one axle of your vehicle included in that special. These pads are usually the lowest quality, and you will typically get offered upgraded pads as one of the things that would take the brake job up over the $149.
  • ROTORS
Rotors may be turned or replaced. They can usually be turned until about 70,000 miles and then must be replaced. Whether they are recommended to be turned or replaced depends upon the thickness left on them until they are worn to the metal. Rotors cost about $200 to turn and about $300 to replace per axle including materials and labor.
  • CALIPERS
Calipers need to be replaced less often – usually somewhere around 100,000 miles. However, when they do need to be replaced, they are expensive, running somewhere around $400 per axle including materials and labor.
  • BRAKE LINE SYSTEM (FLUSH)
Your brake line system should be flushed and the fluid replaced around 30,000 miles. This usually costs $100. Brake fluid naturally absorbs moisture. When this happens, it causes rust and allows contaminants into the braking system. This, then causes the fluid to boil too fast thereby reducing the effectiveness of the overall braking system and further breaking down the fluid. Simply said, if you had a milk carton containing spoiled milk, would you put new milk into the dirty carton, or would you wash out the carton prior to adding new milk?

All of these mileages are dependent upon your manufacturer recommendations, the quality of product on your vehicle, the way you drive your vehicle as well as the terrain in which you normally drive. Therefore, it’s difficult to say exactly at what mileage these things should be done. However, you can see if you need all of these done to both axles how you could easily get to a $1,000+ brake job. There are also variances to these procedures. For example, your calipers may only need pins replaced. Or your brake cap could have corrosion on it which requires it to be replaced with the flush.

At Alpha & Omega Automotive, we want to keep you safe on the road. We will do a FREE brake inspection and will give you a detailed report of what needs to be corrected or updated on your vehicle. We look forward to seeing you at Alpha & Omega Automotive!

Why are my brakes squeaking?

Squeaking from your brakes can be caused by a variety of factors, including debris like stones caught in the caliper, or it may indicate that the brake pads are wearing thin.

Why are my brakes making a grinding noise?

A grinding noise from your brakes often means urgent maintenance is needed. This sound can indicate that the brake pads have worn down completely, causing metal-to-metal contact that can damage your rotors.

Why are my brakes vibrating?

Vibration during braking is commonly due to uneven rotor surfaces. Misshapen rotors can cause the car to shake when the brakes are applied. Resurfacing or replacing the rotors at Alpha & Omega Automotive can correct this issue and restore smooth braking.

Why are my brakes making a burning smell?

A burning smell from your brakes could indicate they are overheating. If you notice this along with smoke from the wheels, it's important to pull over safely and check if the brakes have cooled. Continuous driving could lead to further damage.

What are the 3 signs that brake pads are worn?

Common indicators that it's time to replace your brake pads include hearing squeaking or grinding noises and seeing the brake warning light on your dashboard.
